'Confusion' in choosing a career after B. Tech -- MS, MBA, JOB or any other, how did you choose yours?

Do What You Love Scope Is Everywhere

There are people who makes the rain...
There are people who  feels the rain
There are people who experience the rain
There are people who just ignore whether it rains or not.

So, to get into B Tech - you followed some crowd or an individual. To join FB, you followed a girl or to follow  a girl you joined there or you followed other friends.  We - humans - learn by following and then try to teach others while searching inside of us.

You are on one path, you have traveled some distance - the train is moving and it will stop after another 12 hours journey. Now you want to know whether to get down at New Delhi OR get down now and take a train to Mumbai?

Times are changing - opportunities are changing - political systems are changing, basic innovation is changing and you might have heard that - Google is having in its pay-roll - many undergraduates -- because they are excellent innovators.  A person studies B Tech and then automatically apply for MS and move over to US. An another one completes B Tech and go directly to MBA - either in any university or in IIM.  They have certain plans, support from parents or may be they have some dreams.  So far you are concerned - you might have taken the B Tech  That is nice.  I am not telling you "chose what you love"   I love some girl - but can I choose her? NO.  In younger days you love to be a policeman or bus driver - would you choose that profession? That is shit like thing and they call it "positive thinking" and I did not see any positiveness there.
when you reach the final year - enlarge your understanding -  read as much things on  different subjects - so you get deep into it.  Do not worry about interview questions and personality questions and resume writing - Be prepared to be on your own - 200% You will like it, and you love it.  Most important - cultivate innovation and creativity.. read more answers on these two subjects. Do not get attracted to start-ups.  An Engineer is working in Bank, A chemical engineer applied for a post in Post and Telegraphs and B Com graduate is now handling his advertising business, an under-graduate with his innovation is running successful on-line business.  Degrees and qualification needed to get a value in society - its like a passport. The Visa you get is very important.  Never try to look down at yourself.  If you do, then every one do the same to you.

Once you reach 4th year - you expand your horizons, do not discuss your plans with any one, be open to everything any thing.

A post graduation degree is soon becoming a benchmark qualification for a lot of professional openings. Hence an MBA or MS is something one should always look at based on aptitude. Based on available opportunities one could look at directly going for an MBA or first working for a few years. Both have pros and cons and hence a decision based on situation need to be taken. Many take student loans for bachelors degree and may want to pay it off before taking up another for a higher degree. Some may prefer to be done with studies in one go rather than coming back to it later. So it is purely a personal choice.

As far as low paying jobs is concerned, consider initial 2-3 years at job as investment into learning. Once you gain expertise you could always switch over to better paying options.

  • Upon completion of your undergrad (BE) degree, go for a job in a field you are currently interested in - IT, H/W, Start up, Creative.. anything.
  • Understand your job, function and that particular industry in depth.
  • While at work, observe and learn what MBAs work on, what MS grads work on and is there any difference between those educated in India and otherwise. (in terms of their work, working style, approach, etc)
  • If you are keen enough, you will find an answer to your confusion.

Take your path which you want to take.

Work experience is also very valued when you apply for schools abroad and now even at home, so it would be worthwhile for sure...
